In 1992, to meet the challenges posed by climate change, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) implemented a global framework recognising the nine groups that comprise organised civil society. Climate Chance has used this framework to define the reference communities of its participants.
BINGO - Business and industry organisations and their professional associations;
Businesses, company networks, industries, trade, multinational companies, SMEs, VSEs, social and solidarity economy companies, start-ups, cooperatives, fair and ethical trade.
LGMA - Local government and municipal authorities and their professional associations;
Local and regional governments, départements, public companies, city associations, networks of cities and regions, elected officials and technicians.
FARMER - Agricultural organisations;
Farmers, small farmers, farmer networks and associations, urban agriculture.
RINGO - Research institutes and independent organisations;
Scientists, scientific and technical culture centres or associations, research centres, experts and researchers, whistle-blowers.
ENGO - Environmental non-governmental organisations;
NGOs and their networks, international solidarity organisations, human rights organisations, nature and environmental protection associations, foundations.
IPO - Organisations representing Indigenous populations;
Associations and structures representing indigenous populations or communities.
W&G - Women and Gender organisations;
Associations or structures working for gender equality and women's empowerment.
YOUNGO - Children and Youth organisations;
Associations and structures representing or comprised of young people and/or children, student networks or associations.
TUNGO - Trade union organisations;
Trade unions, organisations and federations, multinational coordination organisations, branch trade unions.
